Nagasaki Day 9th August

  The historical nuclear attack took place in the year 1945 with an atomic bomb on August 6 in the city of Hiroshima and later on August 9 in Nagasaki. Nagasaki Day is observed every year on August 9 to promote peace politics and raise awareness of the effects of the bomb attack on Nagasaki. Nagasaki city was attacked by atomic weapons that killed thousands of life instantly. It is the 76 th  anniversary of the atomic bombing of the Japanese city. It is the second city after Hiroshima to be attacked by a nuclear bomb. An annual event takes place in Galway Alliance War in Eyre Square marking the anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki by the United States in 1945. Various programs are held to promote peace politics every year through music, dance, and songs. History: In 1945, the United Nations deployed a nuclear bomb to the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. IIT-Kanpur will establish an autonomous centre 'Chandrakanta Kesavan Centre for Energy Policy and Climate Solutions',

  • IIT-Kanpur will establish an autonomous centre 'Chandrakanta Kesavan Centre for Energy Policy and Climate Solutions', for implementing the practical solutions for India & the world to combat Climate Change.   • It will be working with the Department of Sustainable Energy Engineering. • The Centre is named after Dr Chandrakanta Kesavan, pioneering acoustical engineer, also a role model for many Indian young girls in science.  • An agreement is established between IIT Kanpur and Sudhakar Kesavan, an alumnus of the Class of 1976 from IIT Kanpur, to establish the Centre in IIT-K. • The primary focus is on policy, communications, education, and outreach efforts to implement technology and science-based solutions in the country at large, outside the academic world.

  "Hiroshima Day is observed on August 6 every year to raise awareness of the disastrous effects of the atom bomb and the need to promote "peace politics" among nations.     Significance:   • On August 6, 1945, during World War II (1939-45), an American B-29 bomber dropped the world’s first deployed atomic bomb over the Japanese city of Hiroshima.  • The explosion immediately killed an estimated 80,000 people; tens of thousands more would later die of radiation exposure.  • Three days later, a second B-29 dropped another A-bomb on Nagasaki, killing an estimated 40,000 people.  • Japan’s Emperor Hirohito announced his country’s unconditional surrender in World War II in a radio address on August 15, citing the devastating power of “a new and most cruel bomb.”   • Hiroshima Day 2021 marks the 76th anniversary of the killings. According to a Reuters report, the IOC will honour the anniversary during the Tokyo 2020 closing ceremony, which is scheduled for August 8.
